Plasma Login manager unable to change background image

When using the system settings / login screen / configure appearance, attempting to change the background image will silently fail. This is across multiple installations of CachyOS, all within 3~ weeks or so, all updated to the newest version 6.7.1, but updates applied daily.

Process: Use the gui to change the image, press apply, password prompt comes up, type in, change place in screen/close settings/etc, dialogue box about un-applied settings, press apply, password prompt comes up, type it in. Reboot. Will be the default image on the login screen.

The image can of course be changed manually via file manipulation and config editing.

Mostly I am trying to sort out if this is an Arch/CachyOS/KDE Plasma Login Manager issue, so I can place the bug report in the right place.

Thanks!

Exactly the same issue here on EndeavourOS. No matter which I choose (one I added or existing choices), Waterfall is what shows on reboot.
