Plasma occupying 8%+ of CPU and feels unresponsive after update

So today on Fedora I ran my daily update (nasty habit, don’t do that) and all of sudden I can see my desktop completely unresponsive (takes like 10-15 seconds for right mouse click to take action, even launching the Terminal from taskbar takes ages. Everything else seems to be working just fine, just the plasma seems to be bugged right now.

Has anyone else noticed that too? Anyone can figure out a fix? Also the bug report app doesn’t work and didn’t work for me at all, all it ever did was gathering info and then reported that it can’t be sent.

Distro-sync was my go-to command when something like that happened and it used to work, but now it says there’s nothing to fetch.

Linux 6.18.12-200.fc43.x86_64 KDE Plasma 6.6.0 KWin (Wayland) radv [Mesa 25.3.5]

I don’t have this % CPU in plasmashell.

You tried to make a new user to see if happens too?

That’s pretty much on-par with my current usage here, 8-15% for plasma-shell and about the same for kwin_wayland. This is on an i7-11800H laptop with offload to my 3080rtx onboard.

I’m a bit used to it, but I use a large desktop at 11520x2160, so sort of expect it might be a pig, and the cost of doing business. Not unexpected though, I want to say it’s usually been the same since 5.7 on this box.

I do have a lot more quirks and buggy things since moving from 6.4.5 to 6.5.4 I’ve not spent much time to delve into, the worst is my alt-tab stopped behaving deterministically, but not graphic performance as I can still game on steam at least.

I can assume it was caused by some widget I was using for my desktop - setting my bet on Plasma panel colorizer, because after changing theme it was the last one to add, and without that everything works just fine. Case closed I think.

Okay it’s not, currently happened again as I was AFK, came back to unresponsive desktop. ATM without any widgets so they don’t seem to be the case. Basically typing this as a bug report right now.

Have you tried to see if its something specfic to your user profile? You could create a temp user and see if its’ happening there.

Will try that within few days, for what I can tell right now - it’s definitely Thermal Monitor when time set to 3600. It seems like it doesn’t release cached files and get’s stuck filling 1 core processing power, leading to stutter and making desktop freeze. Having this widget removed during stuttering makes them go away, which leads me to conclusion of this widget got buggy right now.

//Edit: Before I deleted widget far later than it occured and didn’t help with freezing, right now I was sitting over desktop trying to catch the time it starts to stutter - was like within 10 minutes after changing Thermal Monitor time.
Where can I report this bug to creator?
