Plasma on Wayland with Nvidia: Cut off viewport

I’ve been trying Plasma/KDE time and again with Nvidia cards, in this case 4070 but also 5080, no difference. Both are on arch linux. Both run fine on x11, and both “cut off” part of the viewport in Wayland.

Both are having drm modeset=1 which is now default in the recent 595.x nvidia open stack (not nouveau) version.

X11 support is going away I read in >6.8. How can you remove support for X11 when Wayland doesn’t work properly?

No it’s not monitor overscan.

I tried to get this solved by gpt-5.4 (in codex) and it failed, short of going through the source and applying patches I fear there’s nothing that can be done. But, maybe you know a way.

Using nvidia open, not nouveau is not negotionable.

And this is what it looks like on X11, proper

iirc, the drop is for X11 session. Not for XWayland.

Regards

Definitely not a widespread problem, or we’d see many complaints, and I also don’t have this problem.

Operating System: CachyOS Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.25.0
Qt Version: 6.11.0
Kernel Version: 6.19.12-1-cachyos (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
nvidia-open-dkms 595.58.03-1

What can I say, it’s on 2 systems for me. Exact same issues.

Krovikan, that’s what I’m saying. How can x11 support be dropped when wayland support isn’t even proper?

2 different systems, same issue.

It’s not so uncommon //www google com/search?q=kde+plasma+wayland+cut+off+screen

Maybe I’m just getting lucky? I also run Plasma/Wayland on my older desktop, using KDE Neon Testing, and the nvidia 580.126.09 driver. No such issue there either.
