On OpenSUSE 16.0 with plasmashell 6.4.2 I get a popup from plasmashell asking for a password for printserver. The wording is “A CUPS connection requires authentication Password for account on printserver?”. In our environment we don’t have authentication set up for printing and none of the printers or printservers require it. How can I get rid of this annoying popup? With OpenSUSE 15.6 hosts running in exactly the same environment with the same printservers no such popup ever appears.
First, welcome to the KDE Discuss Forum.
Now for the not so pleasant news – please take a look at the KDE Plasma Schedules – <https://community.kde.org/Schedules>
The KDE Plasma version shipping with Leap 16.0 is more than 6 months old and therefore, you will possibly not receive any response to any KDE Bug Reports submitted – apart from the comment that the issue has been fixed in a newer KDE Plasma version.
It would be nice if, Leap 16.0 were to receive a newer KDE Plasma version – there is an openSUSE repository for the absolutely newest KDE Plasma and Gear versions – Catch 22: it’s currently on the Plasma version 6.5.91 (version 6.6 Beta 2) which has some issues building for Leap 16.0 – it ain’t useable. ![]()
Which is why I’ve moved on to Tumbleweed.

The migration from Leap to Tumbleweed is reasonably easy, with a couple of things which one has to be aware of – especially if you’ve enabled SELinux on the Leap system.
- I’ll be posting in the openSUSE Forums on Monday next week to document the minor issues I experienced.
