Pling VS. KDE Store: Best Pratices on Explaining to Others

Hey all,

We were talking about the differences between Pling and KDE Store and turns out there is not any difference as the reply below:

then this reply came along:

As to help others on customizing their KDE system, what is the best practice on explaining to them about Pling/KDE Store if they are the same as Nate stated above. I am aware that I might be answering my question but I want to make sure.

Also, I think this information might be useful if it was stated somewhere on the official KDE space(s).

Thank you,

I don’t know the answer to your question, but wanted to say that the way it is now is pretty confusing. Creating an account on the website is what first started to confuse me.

I also don’t understand really what the difference is between using the website to customize or just going through system settings and customizing that way except system settings seems to be easier.

Something else I’ve been wondering about is ever since I started using kde6, I’ve noticed that when I click on “Get New”, I don’t get near as many results as I did with kde5, which is understandable because it is newer. However, I later figured out that if I do a search for say an icon theme that I used with kde5, I can still find it when I do a search for that particular icon theme and it works too, surprisingly. That being the case, I don’t know why they don’t just show all of the options that kde5 did. Does that make sense?

Same here, unless one is thinking about getting KDE or wants a wallpaper that is not in the store. It is like Eye Candy back in the day.

It does, and I wonder if for most icon themes plasma version do not make a difference as they are just icon files. I might be wrong on that though.

I’m assuming it doesn’t make a difference. Somewhere on here I saw a comment saying that the reason there aren’t as many for kde6 is that nobody likes doing icon packs because they’re very time consuming and require a lot of maintenance.

With that said, my favorite icon pack is one that hasn’t been updated in like 6 or 7 years I think and it works just fine on kde 6
