Prevent surrounding quotation marks on block select in Kate?

If you select text with the block select feature enabled and hit the quotation mark key, it’ll add two quotation marks which is not what my intention is.

I would like it if instead it would simply add one quotation mark and not two like it does when you select text normally (so without the block select feature enabled).

Is there any way to achieve this? I would also be fine with disabling the entire feature of adding quotation marks around selected text and instead just replace the selected text with one quotation mark.

I understand that this feature of automatically adding quotation marks around selected text is desired in some cases but not in others.

I also realized how this is the same for all the automatically closing brackets and the likes even though I have the setting “Automatically close brackets when opening bracket is typed” disabled.

Edit 1: Oh my days! I just realized that you can disable this feature if you remove the “Enclosing characters” setting (under Editing > General)

Edit 2: But it also requires the setting “Automatically close brackets when opening bracket is typed” to be disabled, just for completeness :slight_smile:
