Problems with upgrading Neon to 24.04

Hadn’t used neonuser for a while. Put in my hotswap bay and booted OK. Had to update licence of pdf Studio Pro which was OK. Large number of updates in Discover applied. Rebooted and then saw upgrade notification. Should have started this after evening meal! When I get back, screen has frozen completely at point of whether to keep a package or replace. Rebooted but boot baulked with un-bootable drive. Used a different OS that comes with Boot Repair (GRUB repair) which reported EFI issues and failed to go any further. Fortunately able to boot into a different OS where I have copied most items I need to keep. Haven’t had this much fun ( :-> ) since doing a major upgrade to FerenOS!

Back in the days when my family, and other responsibilities were a lot less… this sort of puzzle solving was “fun.” Nowadays however, I did not expect the 24.04 LTS upgrade to be so unreliable, and stress-inducing.

Even if there’s not much progress / new insights to report yet, I think somebody should speak to these widespread issues with GRUB, EFI, etc., that are affecting many Neon users, by writing up a post at: https://blog.neon.kde.org
