PackageKit is unlikely to accept this change. As Redhat sees Flatpak as “the future of application distribution”, and Flatpak, like other modern “appstores”, doesn’t ask questions when installing apps. So PackageKit is just a legacy that no one wants to do any significant change with.

No, PackageKit is not deprecated.

I don’t think I’ve seen a single comprehensive document explaining exactly whether, and if so, how, PackageKit is deprecated. All the information I’ve found is conflicting.

Heck, I’ve even had a few productive conversations at PackageKit’s GitHub repository, so it’s definitely at least managed in some respect.

KDE doesn’t have the manpower to develop its own package manager abstraction layer for this. And shouldn’t.

Yeah. It’d be silly to, considering that lots of other stakeholders, like GNOME, also want a usable backend, and nobody has any desire to create a proprietary implementation.
