Proposal: Official CI/CD publishing workflow for KDE Store / OpenDesktop

I’m maintaining KVitals, an open-source KDE Plasma widget, and I’ve been looking into automating releases to the KDE Store.

Currently, I build and release KVitals through GitHub, but publishing a new version to the KDE Store still requires a manual update through the store interface.

I’d like to see an officially supported way for project maintainers to publish releases from CI/CD.

Ideally, the platform would provide a documented API or another supported integration for:

  1. Secure authentication for CI/CD
  2. Uploading a new release to an existing product
  3. Updating release metadata such as version and changelog
  4. Retrieving product and release information
  5. Verifying publishing permissions

The workflow I’m looking for is roughly:

Git tag vX.Y.Z -> CI builds and tests -> CI creates the package -> Official OpenDesktop / KDE Store interface -> New release published

I’m deliberately not proposing to automate the current website through browser automation or undocumented requests. I’d rather contribute toward a stable, officially supported interface.

I found an OpenDesktop discussion from 2017 asking for a command-line client/API for adding products and updating existing products from build scripts, and another request from July 2024 asking about command-line uploading. The 2024 response said this had been added to the wanted features list.

This makes me wonder whether there is already work planned for this, or whether there is a repository/team where contributors could help implement it.

I’m interested in contributing code if there is an appropriate upstream project.

For maintainers of Plasma widgets, themes and other KDE Store content, would CI/CD publishing be useful to you?
