Rainbow text when enable HDR

When enable HDR on my LCD monitor (LG 24QP550), color becomes washed out and text becomes rainbow colors (except in buttons and combo boxes) as in the attached image.

I have to capture it using my phone because these rainbow doesn’t visible in screenshot.

I know LCD is not good for “HDR”. I just want to report it.

May someone point me to where is the correctly place or what more information is needed to report it. Thanks!

It is not rainbox, its subpixels on edges. They were always like that, but hdr makes it more visible. You might change subpixel arrangement on sys confg or increase font size.

It certainly shouldn’t make anything more visible like that. Most likely the monitor turns on some especially bad contrast “enhancement” in HDR mode. With some luck it can be turned off in the monitor’s OSD.

It used to work fine before. Only happen with recent versions of KDE. I don’t know how to test previous versions. Is using old versions of kwin enough?

I also tested on Windows without touching any settings in the monitor. HDR works correctly there.

There is detail if it could help.

So I enable HDR. Take a screenshot. Open that screenshot. Set zoom to 100% so the pixel on the screenshot match on the monitor.

If I move the screenshot slowly around, the text on the screenshot changes colors. Look like the subpixel of the screen is shifted.
