When you have Fall Apart disabled, the region selection windows disappear without any close effects as intended. However, with Fall Apart enabled, the region selection windows use the Fall Apart effect despite that not being the intended behavior. This is not a global issue, as windows which are supposed to close without WM effects still close instantly.
Was gonna edit my post but apparently 5 minutes is “too late“ to edit.

Spectacle doesn’t have all window manager effects disabled so that you can still see minimize animations and what not. IIRC, some animations were originally disabled to keep Spectacle out of its own screenshots. It seems like the fall apart effect is somehow not getting into the screenshots unless you open another instance of spectacle to take a screenshot of the spectacle instance that is using the effect. Maybe it’s working fine then? I kind of like it since it’s silly, but I can see why it would bother some people since it’s kind of blinding.
This is what I thought you were talking about. It’s silly and a bit blinding, so I understand if you want to make a bug report about this, but it’s not truly unintentional either.
You… sure? This wasn’t present in earlier versions of Plasma.
The only reason we ever disabled window effects for spectacle was to keep it out of its own screenshots. As long as it’s not appearing in its own screenshots when you retake a screenshot, it’s not bugged.
Yeah, but I find it pretty disorienting, along with some other people I’ve seen talking about it– plus, it kinda breaks the illusion of it being an extra layer rather than normal windows. I keep catching myself thinking applications crashed after I take a screenshot /:
