Why does registering a KDE Identity account require a full name instead of just an alias?
Additionally, did I understand it correctly that the full name will be visible on GitLab once you log in there?
It won’t be checked you might want to type in a pseudo, if you rather.
And actual name tend to make us behave more respectfully.
The legal name is important for contributors, to protect their contributions with copyright to make it actually free software (at KDE we use LGPL and GPL) and not public domain or undefined licensing which is even worse.
Be it code, image (theming, wallpapers…), translation, text, documentation…
Anonymous people have no legal existence hence no rights.
Yes.
To be clear invent.kde.org is not a forum, it is for contribution.
I want to contribute by reporting bugs for example, it would be nice if that could be done without providing my full name.
You can type anything you like into the full name field when registering. It doesn’t need to be your legal full name.
Bugs should be reported to bugs.kde.org, which uses a different login than identity.kde.org. See Get Involved/Issue Reporting - KDE Community Wiki
And bugs reporting is a lot less sensitive than code when it comes to copyright and licensing.
For this use a pseudonym is perfectly fine.
