Remote Desktop Sharing Problems

I’ve tried three subsequent Kubuntu releases, including the latest 25.10, hoping to get some form of KDE’s remote desktop sharing to work properly. Either krdp or krfb. I can get the servers configured properly, but as soon as I attempt to connect, it fails. With krdp, the window to allow the connection either doesn’t show, or flashes so quickly you can’t allow it, which causes the connections to fail. Also, it seems krdp may not be compatible with non-Linux RDP clients (such as the “Windows” RDP app or Jump RDP for Mac/iOS). With krfb, I can get VNC clients to connect, but they won’t control the screen - it’s viewing only. This I believe might be a Wayland issue.

I’ve tried each new Kubuntu release with the hope whatever is causing these issues for the past year and a half have finally been fixed, but they haven’t been. There seems to be no way to get either of these working? Does anyone know what’s causing these issues or if there is a way to fix it to get one of these working?

I would prefer to use standard KDE Remote Desktop servers and generic clients, rather than going to some proprietary solution.

Update: I’ve now tried krdp with the latest KDE Neon as well as using linux RDP clients that are known to work, such as Remmina and Thincast. I can connect using Neon, but I get a black screen and a mouse curser only. I think this has something to do with the AMD RX580 GPU on the machine. Any ideas how to fix this? Krdp is supposed to automatically switch to software rendering if GPU rendering fails.
