Wow!!! Great what you are doing for Reports in the Master.
The thought that went into this reprogramming is perfect. I love the functionality you are adding and the ease you have created for using and modifying custom favorite reports. I especially like how many less clicks it now takes to change a date range. A suggestion I would make to make for changing date ranges even easier would be for all reports using a date range of this year or last year, you put a toggle switch right on the main report page to toggle between the two dates.
Just wanted to thank you for this work and tell you how much I appreciate it.
for those that not have the newest version KMyMoney 5.2.x (like me), I would very appreciate if you could post 2 or 3 anonymized screenshots of the new report features you like within the reprogrammed things.
I am using Linux with both the Stable and Master Flatpak versions of KMYMoney. I have also used the appimage version in the past. I find the appimage updates the Master daily while the Flatpak version of the Master gets updated with a day or two delay. For various reasons, I have come to prefer using the Flatpak over the appimage.
Below are images of the changes to the report displays. I have deleted personal information from the images, so they appear somewhat incomplete.
This first image shows the Master’s new format for displaying Custom Reports (I blanked out info in the Name column as it contains my account numbers and other personal details). Note how the Favorites Name is no longer shown in the left side column and the reports now display in a large area on the right side. The report date range is shown now. I find that very helpful as some of my report dates are set for reviewing current year info and some of my dates are set for reviewing prior year data at tax preparation time. There is also a new useful column showing which group the report originated from. There is another new column showing if you modified any of the reports during your current session.
Instead of being directed to the conventional configure windows, you now open an area on the right side with easy access to all the configurable options.
All the above represents a fantastic improvement to the usability interface of the program and I am glad to show my appreciation to the developers for the work that they put into this. In fact, I think this ranks as one of my most appreciated improvements that they have made to the program since I started using it many years ago.
Many thanks @markhm for the screenshots and detailing which improvements are the more significants for your use cases.
I have downloaded the Master version (kmymoney-master-5536-linux-gcc-x86_64.AppImage) because the stable version (kmymoney-5.2-5482-linux-gcc-x86_64.AppImage) doesn’t have the report improvements (yet).
I agree the right-side panel for report configuration is an improvement BUT it has a cost:
The filter section shows only 4 or 5 items of the things being selectable:
I agree that when using the filters with a lot of possible selections, it gets difficult now to view all of them. A suggested further improvement would be to include a button on the right to “Expand the Window” to a maximized new window or tab.
good idea.
Another improvement would be a textsearch field where the user writes “Ban” and the list is restricted to all values having these letters in them.
what do you mean with “suggested”? Do you mean a bug (status = wishlist) already exist in https://bugs.kde.org?
