I booted the latest User version in Live mode. This is my 1st use of Neon KDE v6.1.1.
Instead of the EXPECTED KDE Wayland, I am in X11.
Is there a way to boot in Live mode, GRUB Menu parms for example, to boot the ISO file and run LIVE in Wayland mode vs X11?
Or will this ability for KDE-wayland in LIVE mode become standard in the upcoming version?
Further, my nvidia graphics card is not detected upon boot. In LIVE use, I have no sound. Is this a general problem with ANY video where a monitor/TV connected over HDMI will not have audio operational at boot?
Thanks for any help
I read that Neon is cutting edge stuff so do not expect flawless operation.
Also every KDE os I have used allows you to change from Plasma to Wayland at the login screen. Maybe them / they decided to default to x-11 for a better chance of working at first boot.
Have fun

No,.
This is likely from the live session not using the proprietary Nvidia driver that provides HDMI audio. I don’t think the open source driver has this.
Not sure of this is a technical or legal thing or not, but most live images don’t use the proprietary drivers. Endeavour OS does have a boot option for it, I think.
My AMD and Intel based graphics all have had working audio via HDMI in a live session when I have tested.
Edit /etc/sddm.conf
, comment everything in [Autologin]
section.
Then systemctl restart sddm
.
You’ll be shown with SDDM login screen. On the left-bottom there’s a session selector.
