Scheduled transaction simultaneous deposit and withdrawal

Dear all,

I am using KMM Version 5.2.1 on Opensuse Tumbleweed. My question is the following :

I woulsd like to create a scheduled transaction let say as an income of 1000 € with a payment of 50 €, the net amount being 950 €. Is this possible ? I tried to do so by setting the Deposit field with 1000 and the Withdrawal field with 50. It does’nt work. Am I missing something ? Many thanks for your help. Rene

Hello,

Yes.

The key concept is a transaction split.
You start enter the new scheduled transaction, then, instead of selecting a category, click the Split button to the right of the Category field, see red circle:

Then you arrive in the transaction split editor. You can add as many splits as you like, each split having own amount and own category.
In your example:

  • any income category, enter the 1000€ in the “deposit” field
  • any expense category, enter the 50€ in the “Payment” field

at the end, accept the question, so that the total amount of the transaction is 950 €.

Hello,

Thank you for you reply and very clear explanations. Unfortunately, there is no Split button at the right of the Category field, neither inside and outside.

The split button is absent on both KMM versions from the Opensuse repository and from the Applmage.

On the other hand, latest version KKM (version 5.1.3) for Fedora has this Split button, making possible the split operation.

Thanks for you help.

Hello,

I am a bit confused because you first wrote about Opensuse Tumbleweed and later about Fedora.

Anyway, i am using the AppImage (latest 5.2.1 version is always here: Download and use the AppImage version | KMyMoney) and the split button is visible there.
If I were you, i would use the 5.2.1 version of KMM, not 5.1.3.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I’m sorry to insist but, as in my last email, neither the KMM Applmage (both stable version and development) and the one from the Opensuse repository version (5.2.1) contains the Split button. Yesterday I mentioned Fedora, because I can dual boot my system, and I notice that the Fedora version of KMM is 5.1.3, which contains the split button.

Please find below the information on KMM from the Oppensuse repository:

i haven’t thought to dual-boot… now i understand, thanks.
It is strange that AppImage does not work. I have kmymoney-5.2-4860-linux-gcc-x86_64.AppImage working well on my computer. But anyway…

  • Could you post a screenshot of the KMM window where you cannot see the split button?
  • What do you see here when you click on “à propos de KMyMoney”?
    .
    • The “composants” tab shows sometimes interesting information.
    • Here is my example :

Than you for your quick reply.

Please find the two pictures:

Thanks !
Could you try this?

  • write a dummy value in “nom de l’opération récurrente
  • select the relevant bank account in “Compte

and see if you see the split transaction logo?

If this doesn’t work, have you also tried to enter one category in the catégorie field, and after this you click on the split symbol?

or if you don’t see the split symbol, do you see a blank space? Or no space at all?
What happen if you click in the blank space?

To me this looks like a problem with the icon set. Clicking on the blank spot should probably do the trick. Which icon set do you use?

Can you start KMyMoney from the command line and post the first few lines that are showing up in the terminal window here, please? For me this looks like the following:

Model for "ST" loaded with 4 items in 0 ms
Monetary values will be formatted based on locale "de_DE" Example: "123,45 €"
Long date format "dddd, d. MMMM yyyy"
Short date format "dd.MM.yy"
Narrow date format "dd.MM.yy"
Decimal symbol ',' 44
Thousand separator '.'

I agree.
I guess @renepaul has the “system” icon set.
(under Configuration → Configurer KMyMoney → Icônes)

If you select “breeze”, then you should see the split transaction logo:

@ipwizard i am wondering why there are still four icon sets if only one is showing the full set of icons. Would it be better to disable “system”, “tango” ?
Or do they work for a specific configuration (e.g. dark mode?)?

I am not using dark mode on my computer and when i select “system” or “tango”, many icons are missing.

Hi everybody,

You are right, the is a small clickable space within the field which operate as expected. However, I changed the different Icon configuration. The icon never appears.

Cheers

Hi everybody,

Thanks to your different suggestions I solved the issue. As I’m using dark mode, the solution is:

Adjustment

 Appearance
    Style
       Old Application : Adwaita-dark

Thank you so much to all of you.

René

I am using system, but my system is setup to use breeze. I have no idea about icons and the magic behind these sets, so I cannot comment what is better to do in the future.

Interesting.
I was not aware that the icons were an “external component” of KMyMoney and that they interact with the operating system.
