Screen brightness automatically going to about 4%

Posted this in the Suse forums as well - no response there…

As above, am having issues with the screen brightness automatically going to 4% (think it is when the pc locks/sleeps) and doesn’t recover when woken.
Reset to 50% or so, in settings, but just does it again next time.
Anyone else seeing this?
Tumbleweed fully patched, Plasma up-to-date, etc.
Annoying…

Dell Optiplex 7060 Desktop, 16GB RAM, Tumbleweed (fully patched/Wayland), Plasma (up-to-date).

happens on kubuntu 24.10 as well and it’s annoying… from my notes

# to keep brightness levels from changing, disable brightness control slider in system tray
systemctl --user edit plasma-powerdevil.service
# add these two lines to the file that opens
[Service]
Environment=POWERDEVIL_NO_DDCUTIL=1
# save and logout
# to reverse, just delete the directory created at
~/.config/systemd/user/plasma-powerdevil.service.d
# add this package for stand alone GUI control of monitor settings
gddccontrol

Hi - it sounds like you may be running into the following bug? 452492 – external screen brightness is not restored after screen wakeup

Which…seems like a pretty thorny one. There are a lot of slightlydifferentchallenges with temporarily dimming screen brightness.

If you are interested in following developer thoughts on the matter, there’s some discussion/coordination happening here: Dimming rework (#38) · Issues · Plasma / PowerDevil · GitLab
