Hello, I am a new user of KDE plasma, coming from Mint. I’m trying to set up some apps I use, currently Bitwarden and Proton Mail desktop. The issue I am facing is that I cannot seem to use my security key (yubikey) for 2fa. What happens is, I enter my username and password. Then it usually says “waiting for input from security key” after which, I tap my key with my finger, and then I get an error such as “Something went wrong authenticating with your security key. Please try again.” and just get stuck in this loop. This only happens with programs I’ve installed, I can use my security key in the native Firefox no issue. It’s the flatpak + RPM version of Bitwarden and Proton mail that it seems to refuse to want to use my key.
Not sure if anyone here will have experience with this.
Neither program is a KDE application and RPM suggests this is also neither KDE Neon nor KDE Linux.
Maybe your distritution’s forum would be a better place to ask?
hmm, sorry, I’m not sure I exactly understand your point. They both have RPM packages available, so I thought they would work. Is that not universal for fedora? And what do you mean by “RPM suggests this is also neither KDE Neon or KDE Linux?” Maybe I am in the wrong place, like I said I’m new to KDE, but thank you for trying to help.
Also, is this not the forum for the KDE plasma desktop distribution??? I thought it was O.O
Yes, RPM is the standard package format for Fedora.
This is a forum for various kinds of KDE software.
There are two Linux distributions which kind be counted as such: KDE Neon and KDE Linux.
Other distributions, like Fedora, have their own support forum.
Interesting, I must not fully understand this ecosystem then, because I was under the impression that KDE Plasma is a distribution of Fedora, the same as KDE Neon, and that both would fall into this forum. So are you saying that KDE Plasma is NOT a linux distribution? What is it, then, and why is there a tag in this forum for plasma?
Plasma is KDE’s desktop shell.
Many distributions have it as one of their options for graphical shell.
Fedora is one of those, they call their KDE based product “Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop”
If a user has an issue with a KDE product, say Okular or the Plasma shell, then this forum is a good place to ask.
If a user has a system setup issue or problem with a non-KDE software such as Firefox, it makes more sense to ask on the distribution’s support forum.
Thank you, I understand now. Appreciate you taking the time to walk me through that!
