In Dolphin we can select all files at once with a double click in the free space.
Wouldn’t this be nice to have in XDG File Picker dialogs as well?

Yes it would be.
In dolphin, this is opt-in and you can have other actions.
That would be useful when opening files, only.
Technically this would be a bit complicated.
I’m sure it was technically complicated to implement in Dolphin originally.
Really? I thought double clicking the free space was for bringing up the preview/info panel!
Looking now I see it’s just one of a long list of choices - I don’t remember changing that, but surely CtrlA is the simplest mash to get all selected…
Feeling little stupid now
Actually i am so used to the double click, that i basically used it in the file picker more accidentally than intentionally. and actually was used to ctrl a for this purpose.
At least “select all” on double click is the default in Dolphin here on neon.
I think it’s a matter of each their own. Myself in Dolphin CTRL+A to select all, and in the various file pickers I just hold down the left mouse button and drag.
Well that really depends TBH. For example, you could open Audacious and navigate to open files in a folder, then Ctrl_A select them all, and click to de-select any you don’t want…
It’s good to have the flexibility - but for sure, keyboard with mouse is much better than mouse only.
No, you’re right - I logged in my ‘test’ vanilla user on Manjaro and it’s the same… I don’t remember changing it.
