on kde neon (5.27 with wayland) when i click sign out i go to a black screen, system is completely unresponsive and the only way to fix it is to hard reboot

Probably black screen after logout · Issue #1520 · sddm/sddm · GitHub, which is already fixed in SDDM 0.20, which isn’t released yet. Many distros are shipping git snapshots of SDDM for this reason, but Neon is not. Hopefully SDDM gets a release soon.
