For me, I might rollback my system (root partition) to a btrfs snapshot before the system update that includes the Plasma 6 upgrade, until I find a better long-term solution. But I don’t know about downgrading KDE packages
I’m not familiar with snapshots - have you manually made that snapshot, or is it done automatically in the upgrade?
KDE Neon 6.0.2 User Edition is definitely not stable, even under X11.
Applications constantly freeze, however it’s only the application window that freezes, the rest of the desktop continues to run (mostly) fine - something that never once happened under 5.27. If I use Meta + [ctrl] + [esc] to kill the window, it kills the whole desktop, like the OS is unaware the window is even present.
I’ve had Thunderbird crash twice in a couple of hours.
Currently I am using Wayland. I was nervous to do so but thought I should try it out since 6.0.2 X11 was so stable. So far so good! I suspect the freezing I was getting with KDE Neon 6.0.0 on X11 was the crashing on Wayland. Wayland had/has a much lower tolerance for unresponsiveness. With that freezing issue fixed, Wayland seems perfectly stable now.
Edit: got what I thought was for sure going to be a crash, but then the system regained responsiveness. Was ready to switch back to X11, but the fact responsiveness was regained without a crash means I’m, so far, going to continue with Wayland.
Hey Salt, you ever get the auto-type working with KeePassXC? I filed a bug with KeePassXC but it wasn’t that, it is the update. I am using X11 with my 6.x Neon. I have to do Ctrl+F and then type, also it kind of crashes or closes out on its own as well. Thanks!
I am using Wayland now and don’t see any Perform Auto-Type in my KeePassXC. I just assumed auto-type isn’t easily possible with Wayland. I copy the password and paste it, which should be secure enough with a clean Wayland system.
I would have to boot back into X11 to see if Perform Auto-Type appears in my KeePassXC. Not sure why it’s completely missing now. I only started using KeePassXC about a month ago as a complement to Bitwarden.
I do notice I can’t enable the secret service integration in KeePassXC because kwalletd6 is using it instead.
Just want to emphasize stability still is inferior on Wayland vs X11. I get a number of hangups. However, since KDE 6.0.2 the hangups are not crashes. I find I get almost frustrated enough to switch back to X11 and then the system regains responsiveness.
I hope things improve over the next few months.
I’m currently using X11 and Perform Auto-Type is visible in my KeePassXC. It just goes away when you use Wayland.
I am having issues with Plasma 6 but have been running Wayland on everything for years. I feel uniquely privileged as I seem to be the only person who has had far more issues with X11 than Wayland on both desktops and laptops.
That’s a recent Neon packaging bug; see 487374 – Missing icons.
Update again, this should be fixed, now.
