I’m trying to recreate my Windows workflow of pressing Win + Shift + S which allows me to select a region and instantly copy it to the clipboard - no opening a window and having to confirm or anything else. In order to achieve this I’m using the “Quit after manual save or copy” feature.
When in a fullscreen game which locks my mouse spectacle simply takes a blank image unless I either: unlock my mouse in the game through some means OR rather than manually copying, I press the accept button which opens the spectacle window (which I don’t want as it disrupts my gameplay).
Have I simply configured spectacle wrong, is this not how its meant to be used, or is this just a bug?

you can use the keyboard shortcuts to take a screen grab and save it to a file without any other interaction.
you can change the short cut for rectangular region to be your meta+shift+s shortcut and set spectral to remember the size of the region and then every time you hit that shortcut it will throw up a rectangle and all you need to do is hit enter.
if you need to change the size or location of the region then you will need to take a “practice” shot so spectacle will remember it.
Thanks. This solves the window flashing briefly upon copying the screenshot but the main issue of screenshots copying a blank image while the mouse is locked by a game remains.
so it takes as screen shot while the game is full screen but the image is blank?
this was taken while a full screen game was starting up using the exact same size region used in my above screen shot
something is weird about your setup then.
what if you tried to use the keyboard shortcut for full screen or better yet just the monitor where the game is displayed… does that not save a file in the designated directory under the save settings (i have mine set to save to the desktop for easy access).
Even full screen screenshots copy a blank image when using close on manual copy unless I press enter to open the window.
I’m pressing Print to launch Spectacle and then pressing Ctrl + C to copy the whole screen, this works fine when my mouse is unlocked. https://files.catbox.moe/ikhb9p.mp4
these are my settings
and i have the check box to save to the default folder enabled so that the screen shot appears on both my desktop and in the clipboard after i hit return.
for the rectangular region shortcut i only get the bounding box and annotation tools on the screen (no spectacle GUI) and when i hit return the save(s) are complete (no mouse usage is involved).
in your video i see you dragging the mouse and getting the spectacle GUI come up… neither of those things are necessary if you just want to capture the same rectangular region as last time.
i think the reason it’s not saving anything is because you closing the GUI instead of clicking on the save button… but when using the shortcut there is no need for the GUI.

I was using Meta Shift S which I have bound to capture rectangular region.

Using the shortcut opens the GUI. I think you are misunderstanding what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to emulate the Windows functionality of Windows Shift S.
Strangely as I was drafting this I enabled “Accept on-click-and-release” and it’s magically started doing what I intended it do, even when manually copying as well. Strange.
i do not have that enabled and my GUI never appears… it only appears when i use the other shortcuts.
do you have remember region set to always?
could be down to me being on plasma 5 and you being on plasma 6?
