Hi all,
I’m using Spectacle for screenshots, and sometimes when using this application, the system simply starts to freeze, and then a large number of notifications appear.
It is a bug? Or maybe smth wrong with my hardware/configs?
OS: EndeaveourOS Mercury-Neo
Kernel: Linux 6.12.53-1-lts
Wayland version: 1.24.0-1
KDE version: 6.1.2
Extra: I have two displays.
parleythed:
KDE version: 6.1.2
How is this even remotely possible?
Even copying the details would give you lines such as:
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0
Qt Version: 6.10.0
You appear to have created your own system of reporting, but have actually put in extra details like ‘Wayland version’. and ‘KDE version 6.1.2’ which cannot co-exist on EOs unless you deliberately set it up and refused to update for a very long time.
We don’t usually refer to ‘Wayland version’ to be frank… but overall, I’m not surprised your system is messed up.
Your kernel version 6.12.53-1 is not a standard Linux kernel release, and is certainly not supported on EndeavourOS - the closest reported LTS kernel on my (not EOs) system would likely be 6.12.56-1 (which is marked LTS).
KDE version 6.1.2 is not a supported release of KDE Plasma - Arch and EOs are currently running 6.5.1
EndeaveourOS does not exist, so this is possibly a typing error (a reason we use copy/paste, or select/middle click paste) referring to EndeavourOS, or it could be an indication that you have installed a deeply faked operating system made to look similar in some ways.
I would suggest you try pasting the result of:
inxi -zv8 | grep -vE 'MAC|UUID|IP'
Otherwise I suspect that this will go nowhere (or perhaps invite some wild guessing from the more enthusiastic members).
Meanwhile:
1. Visit the EndeavourOS website, join the forum, and learn to update/synchronise your system. At the VERY least, try running pacman -Syu - this is a subject not related to KDE or Plasma.
This is a fundamental requisite you must satisfy before you can ask for any assistance.
2. Check and ask about any specific bugs or issues with your system in the EndeavourOS/Arch forums.
Also, you must be able to supply at least any error messages (which you can simply copy and paste) from your terminal when trying to run spectacle.
EOs isn’t a simple GUI distribution, some more advanced skills are required.
Hey Ben,
Sorry, I made a mistake and didn’t see it.

Sorry again.
But again, not the correct output for the command… do you know how to run commands in the terminal?
Mine looks like this:

However, from the parts that you printed I would suggest that your system is not a supported EndeavourOS system, you need to synchronise and update it properly… something beyond the scope of this forum.
I understand, thanks for the help. I will continue looking for a solution.
There will be no solution if you cannot successfully synchronise your system with pacman -Syu
I’m running pacman -Syu and waiting for it to finish.

Ok, if that is successful then I would suggest you then create a new user with a clean desktop and verify the problem that way.
If the problem exists on a freshly synchronized system then there might be a bug reported in the EOs forum.
If the problem does not exist with a fresh user then you know it is your user data.

Everything seems okay.
I asked about it in KDE Discuss because I recently started using an OS with KDE, and if I understand correctly, this app came pre-installed.
I previously used Endeavouros with Cinnamon and didn’t have this problem.
Thanks again for your answers and patience.

It’s all good - there are a lot of things to learn and I’m happy you figured it out.
