Spectacle OCR: how to copy text to clipboard and discard the image instead?

I am still on Plasma 6.6 so not sure if 6.7 changes something here.

Got Spectacle OCR working on NixOS with an override so that it can find the languages available. The results are really good, but

  • it still copies the image to clipboard which is useless
  • it allows opening the text in a tempfile

I am pretty sure this is kind of an intermediate state until the “copy text instead of image” is fixed, but is there already a way to fix this, maybe in 6.7?

In 6.7 there’s a “close after text extraction” setting in the settings window that will do this.

tbh from a UX point that is not amazing naming and if it works it should likely be the default

Yeah, I agree. Frankly I wouldn’t even make it a setting; just always do that!

yes, the only edge case would be writing image and text into a PDF or DJVU file, which is not the job of a screenshot tool lol

Would you like to submit a merge request to turn it on by default? That’s a pretty practical first step.

Is it possible to add OCR hotkey to skip any additional steps? Something like meta+something+something > select area > get text.
