In Kdenlive, on the Effects tab I often switch between Favorite Items and Custom Effects. Everytime I do this, the display tree of these is collapsed and I need to expand them again.
Here you can see the Motion tree is expanded, if I click on the “Show all custom effects” button at the top and then back again on the “Show favorite items” the Motion tree will be collapsed.
Is there anyway to disable this auto-collapsing functionality or should I create feature request?
I’m not sure there is separate state kept for each of those filter options. I don’t think they are separate things (like tabs), rather they are just filters which prune the tree.
To see what I mean, if you open a category that is contained in both the set you are switching from and the set you are switching to - then it will remain open as you switch back and forth. It’s only if you switch to a set with new categories that weren’t in your previous view that all those new categories default to being closed.
So I don’t think it’s an “option” - it’s just an emergent property of the implementation (and simply having all new categories default to open surely wouldn’t be a more user friendly thing to do).
You could file a feature request - but I suspect this won’t be a simple tweak, it will require storing state that’s currently a transient property. The best practical workaround I can suggest in the meantime would be to favorite your custom effect - that way you don’t need to switch filtering options to see them.
