Swiss Keboard Lyout with ALT+GR not Supported

'm now 2 hours in and have tried every keyboard layout, but none matched. Also, ALT+GR never works — I can’t type @ and other symbols. Can someone please give me a step-by-step guide on how to fix this?

I recently switched to a 75% layout, but with US, and enabled an AltGr layout.

I don’t get the same Blue highlighting I see on yours… I also see ‘Third level chooser’ instead of AltGr on the first Swedish option which is now selected.

H with H gives me ħ and Ħ with shift.

Trying again with Swedish I will try my ; key:

ö with the Right Alt key gives me ø and Shift +: Ø.

I’m sorry, it appears to be something outside my experience.

It seems you have selected Swedish (US) (I selected simply ‘Swedish’).

Switching now to Swedish (US):
; : with AltGr (Right Alt) gives me ö and nothing shifted. " ’ with AltGr gives me ä and Ä which matches the layout image.

It might be a good idea to include some basic system information; as I’m using Manjaro with Plasma 6.3.6, and Frameworks 6.17.0 which might be relevant.

I’d guess “German (Switzerland)” - “German (Switzerland, no dead keys)” would do the trick. Does it not?

Is it possible you accidentaly activated some layout option that interferes with AltGr? (see the Button on the top right in the Keyboard settings).

Some more information could be useful to help you:

Are you on X11 or Wayland?
Which version of KDE/Plasma are you using?
Which distribution?

If all else fails, I could give you pointers on how to make your own custom layout. But that’s not a simple process, so let’s try other things first.

Have the same problem. Tried both “German (Switzerland)” - “German (Switzerland, no dead keys)”. It does not work. Ubuntu 25.10 with KDE/Plasma 6.5.

This helps:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

  • Generic 105-key (Intl) PC

  • Switzerland

  • Switzerland - German (Switzerland, eliminate dead keys)

  • The default for the keyboard layout

  • No compose key
