Hey everyone, I’m on Fedora 44 with Plasma 6.6.5 running a Wayland session on an NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop GPU (discrete-only mode, proprietary drivers via RPM Fusion). When I hover over an icon on the Icons-Only Task Manager with multiple windows open, nothing appears — no preview popup, no tooltip, nothing.
Here’s what I’ve confirmed and tried so far:
Settings checked:
- “Show small window previews when hovering over tasks” is enabled in the Task Manager widget settings
- “Thumbnail Aside” is enabled in Desktop Effects
- Qt Quick renderer is not set to software in ~/.config/kdeglobals (the QtQuickRendererSettings section doesn’t exist)
Fixes attempted (all followed by a reboot):
- Cleared the KWin cache (`rm -rf ~/.cache/kwin`)
- Reinstalled kpipewire (`sudo dnf reinstall kpipewire`)
- These were based on KDE bug 504887 which describes the same symptoms
Nothing has worked so far.
System info:
- Fedora 44
- Plasma 6.6.5 / KDE Frameworks 6.23.0 / Qt 6.10.2
- Kernel 6.18.16
- NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop, proprietary drivers (RPM Fusion)
- Wayland session
- Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IRX8
Has anyone else run into this on a similar setup? Any ideas on what else to check or try would be really appreciated. Thanks!
