I have the Task Bar previews turned off because the switch in Settings that turns off the tooltips on System Tray icons also controls the previews on the Task Bar.
I do want previews, but the noise from the system tray tooltips is too much, for my usage, they low utility and high noise content (“Middle click to whatever”. Interesting and educational the first few times and then annoying and tedious the next 500000, and the rest of it I’ll click in the icon if I want more information.)
cheers
the task manager and the system tray are separate widgets with separate configuration controls.
in my plasma 5 task manager, turning off previews has no effect on the system tray tool tips that show upon hover.
can you provide more information about your system and what exactly you are seeing that is the issue?
I’m on plasma 6, fedora.
settings looks like this.
if I turn it off, it gets rid of the system tray tooltips, but also the task bar previews.
ah, so under settings > general behavior you can disable information tool tips but the show preview feature in the task manager is caught in the dragnet (because i guess they are “informational” as well).
there doesn’t seem to be GUI way to differentiate between a tool tip and the window preview, and perhaps there should be…
or at the very least when a feature like window preview in the task manager is explicitly offering an “informational” item upon hover, that feature selection should be immune from global dragnet settings like those on the general behavior page.
kind of a chicken and egg thing.
which should take precedence: global settings, or local settings?
what should take precedence is my requirements. lol. well the plasmoids are qml and I’ve forked a couple already and nixed the tooltips so I guess I’ll go through them all one day.
fork 'em all.
