Text Fade Transitions in Kdenlive

I’m working with a clip that has text overlaid on top, and I want to create fade-in and fade-out transitions for the text coming from the left side. However, I’m encountering an issue that during the transition, a black background appears instead of remaining transparent.

Currently, I’m using Dissolve for the fade-in and Luma (with “Linear X” as the Luma Map) for the fade-out, but neither produces the desired result. I’ve tried using the Wipe transition instead, which gives me the correct fade effect, but it has the drawback of altering the color of the background clip (Wipe composition changes the color of the clip).

According to the documentation (Wipe — Kdenlive Manual 25.08 documentation), Dissolve and Luma should function similarly to Wipe with additional customization options, but I haven’t been able to replicate the Wipe behavior using either of these methods.

I’ve attached a demonstration video to show the issue.

I’m using Kdenlive 25.12.0 (Manjaro package).

Hi @rockingcat, and welcome back.

Does the title clip have a transparent background? I just tried to replicate your issue but it works for me. Please post a screenshot of the title clip in the Clip Monitor or in the Title Editor.

Did you install Kdenlive from the Manjaro repository or via Flatpak?

I think it could be the same problem as in this issue.

Hey @berndmj, thanks for making the effort to reproduce the issue!

The title clip has a transparent background, as on the screenshot below.

Kdenlive was installed from the repository.

Hmm, that does seem very similar to what I’m experiencing.
