I don’t have anything against gnome, I just think it’s an odd choice. Is there some kind of reason for it being like that, or am I just the only one that’s noticed? More importantly, would anyone be opposed to it getting changed? I’d submit a PR or something but not only have I never done something like that, but I’m currently busy
Then I’m not quite sure what problem you’re looking to solve? Kdenlive is a project under the KDE umbrella, and it uses things like KF in its implementation, but it’s not in any way a DE specific tool. It’s explicitly intended to be portable, and also runs on Windows and Mac, and the developers and contributors to it use a wide variety of systems.
Is there some kind of reason for it being like that
The most probable one would be it was taken on the system of the person who did the work. And it certainly doesn’t hurt to show we want you to choose it because it’s the Best Tool For the Job regardless of what other life choices you’ve made.
Even if you wanted to frame this as being a numbers and demographics game, I think you’ll find ‘Plasma users’ are significantly in the minority of our totals. Which isn’t itself any slight against Plasma, it’s just the real shape of the world we live in today.
would anyone be opposed to it getting changed
Maybe not to changing it, but possibly more so to changing it for Bad Reasons.
If you want to spend some time improving this, maybe contributing a gallery of screenshots of it running on all the supported environments would be time better spent?
Or if you explicitly want shots showcasing Plasma, maybe put some up in the Plasma project space too?
Sorry if I confused you, it really isn’t a problem I just thought that since it’s a KDE app it would be fitting for the screenshot to be of it running on plasma (as is the case with most other KDE applications screenshots)
Well, I work on the documentation and am running Pop!_OS, so all the screenshots I take for the manual show Gnome and - hopefully soon - Cosmic ![]()
I would like to avoid switching distro or DE just to create screenshots for a KDE application on the KDE DE Plasma, although I understand it makes sense (and is good for branding) to show a KDE application in its “native” environment.
On the other hand, I agree with @Ron that KDE applications run on every other distro and DE, and having screenshots from other DEs emphasizes the universal nature of Kdenlive.
It is quite funny. It’s like if Microsoft’s main Office promotional material had it running on macos. They just wouldn’t do that. There’s no inherent problem, it’s just not normally done.
