Welcome to a new issue of This Week in Plasma!

This week members of the core Plasma team spent almost all of their time in bug-fixing mode! As usual, people unleashed their real-world setups on the new Plasma release and found some issues we missed during the development process, and that nobody reported during the two beta releases. So we made it a priority to fix those issues!

A nudge for https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=519914, quoting:

Not possible to run Neon User using Virtio graphics with Wayland, flickers badly with QXL. Logging in with X11 works. Same with Neon Unstable except that the X11 option is no longer available.

Looks like that’s neon-specific and possibly caused by old drivers? If so, it’s not Plasma-related, so the neon folks will need to check it out.

Plasma 6.5 and 6.6 were truly good and stable versions, 6.7 feels to be rushed, the whole fast and smooth experience got smashed.

Sorry to hear that. Any chance you could quantify “smashed”? In what ways? What problems with Plasma 6.7 are irritating you right now?

KRDP work well in 6.6, but broken in 6.7.0

is this be fixed in 6.7.1?

It feels like Plasma is degrading its core aestitic features from version to newer one, from night color to blur to now effects and animations, so to continue using Plasma we are forced each time to disable a feature.

Maybe my laptops are old or dev and testing are done on powerful laptops with great GPUs, but for 6.7 except for slowness in effects and animations everything seems fine for now.

Are we talking about aesthetics or performance? Or both?

Is there a way to disable the new alternative-character-dialog-on-long-key-press and return to the good old key repeat?

I tried disabling the virtual keyboard in System Settings but after a reboot it’s usually enabled again.

The slowness of performance happens only during the animations and effects, outside of them everything is fine for now.

A question, how can we tell that the bug has been picked up and the issue is being addressed? I don’t see anything added to Bug 519914.

There is also Bug 521821 (Pipewire conflicts with Pulseaudio) which may be fixed but there’s nothing in mentioned in the bug report…

I have full sympathy with the neon folks, I see it’s just one person now. The gentle nudge is because if it’s not possible to get a Neon Unstable update in a VM, it’s not possible to test other changes…
