When I open Kdenlive (23.08.05 on Win 7) the height of the timeline window is just over a third of the height of my display. If I switch between panel sets (Editing Audio, Effects etc), when I return to the Editing window the timeline takes up half the height of my display.
If I drag it back down it will remain in position, but only until I next switch between panel sets.
Just clicking the Editing tab forces the timeline to expand.
Saving a custom panel theme will open everything in my saved positions, but only until I switch between panel sets.
I cannot find any setting to lock this. Am I missing something.
при запуске разрешение 4к . при первоначальном запуске окна расположены как положено, но только переключаешь среды (правка, эффекты и другое) , сразу окошки уменьшаются и приходится растягивать до нужного размера
Thankyou for responding @Eugen_Mohr. My reolution is currently 1920 x 1080.
I have the same behaviour as @RuslanV. The positions are normal when opening kdenlive, but change when switching between panels.
I’m new to the program and have been viewing some video tutorials where I have seen this behaviour repeated (don’t know the versions being used).
I know this is unlikely to be fixed in the earlier Win 7 version I’m using, but I am considering dual booting to Win 10 later (offline) just because of how impressed I am with this program.
Would be keen to know if this behaviour still exists.
If I understand correctly what you’re doing, you’ve resized or changed the main window from the initial defaults the very first time you ever opened the app, and those changes are preserved through a shutdown. That is normal and expected.
However if you want them to be preserved/returned to when you click the “editing tab”, you actually need to save those changes (using ‘save layout’) to either the ‘editing’ preset, or a custom one of your own.
Clicking on those presets just restores a saved layout, not the last state you were in. If you want some current state saved to a preset, you need to explicitly save it to that preset. What’s probably happening to you is you’re just restoring the app-default ‘Editing’ layout.
As soon as you change some element of the UI display you’re in an unnamed ‘current’ state that is saved through app sessions. The layout buttons always return you from that to a previously saved state.
Now I get it. Those five tabs (Edit, Colour, Audio, Effects & Logging) are not windows to switch between, but default Layouts. Each time you select one you are resetting any changes made to a layout back to its default settings.
So, to retain the smaller Timeline area, I must save the current layout, name it Edit, and agree to overwrite the existing Edit layout.
Alternatively, create a new custom layout, and via the Manage layouts window, use the up arrow to place it in the upper five layouts (I Couldn’t find a way to increase the number of layout tabs beyond five).
You can place more of them in the toolbars as buttons or a drop down combobox with the settings -> configure toolbars dialog (either individual layouts or the ‘load layout’ menu), but the menu bar is currently limited to 5.
My personal preference is to do that and then disable the menu bar to gain some vertical real-estate for the timeline. You can still get to all the menu options with the hamburger that adds, and can add any frequently used options to the toolbars.
Thanks for that information. I’m just getting the hang of this program at the moment, so simple editing of the existing Edit layout, and replacing the Logging tab with a custom layout, should suffice for now. Good to know there are workarounds though.
