Tray icons not following monochrome theme.

My tray icons don’t follow the monochrome theme that I installed:

My icons look like this at the moment:

trayIcons

When I log out and select Sway instead of Plasma (Waylan) and then log out and back to Plasma (waylan) my icons are correctly showing as monochrome. On the next boot the icons revert to being colored again.

About my set-up:

DE: Plasma 5.27.5
WM: kwin
Theme: [Plasma], Breeze [GTK2/3]
Icons: Papirus [Plasma], Papirus [GTK2/3]

Use Panel Colorizer.

What is the icon set selected in System Settings → Colours & Themes → Icons in both cases (before and after Sway-ing)?

Also, Monochrome seems to be somehow providing both, Aurorae and Kvantum. Which of them are you using?

Thank you for the replies!

The icon selected in System settings is Papirus and I am using Kvantum. Its stays Papirus also after sway-ing.

I spend some more hours on it yesterday trying to figure out what causes the issue. It seems it is unrelated to Sway but it has to do with scaling.
When I start with 100% scaling the icons are Monochrome (Symbolic) as I want them to be.
But when I start with anything above 100% it turns into full-colored icons . I have a HiDPI screen, so scaling is necessary.

On the Papirus changelog it says version 20250501 has the following:

  • Added rules for scaling symbolic icons up to 200%
  • Added symbolic icons for 22px/24px icon sizes

So how can I set it to prefer symbolic icons above full colored ones?
