Trying to set a shortcut with shift is impossible

I was trying to replicate the shortcuts from my i3 setup (meta + n to switch to workspaces, meta + shift + n to move windows to workspaces), and i could do everything fine except for the moving shortcuts

If I try to set a shortcut with shift, instead of actually using shift in the shortcuts it just inserts what the last key does while holding shift
This wouldn’t be that big of an issue, except for the fact that i often switch keyboard layout and doing that breaks everything

I find the shortcut MetaCtrlF1toF9 does it for me, easy to mash those three modifiers…

input-remapper goes beyond what the plasma desktop can do, you might give that a try.

well that’s not a fix, that’s another key combination

yup, that’s the fix.

Personally I think you’re going to run into a LOT of issues if you want to match up keyboard shortcuts across many desktops - and unless you’re toggling your desktop every other boot it shouldn’t take long to get used to them.

I usually write down new shortcuts and use conky-shortcuts to display them on the desktop when I need a reminder.

Right now I downsized from a full size to a 75% keyboard, so I had a dozen or so new ones to figure out. Not a big deal.

i’ve used window managers with the same keybinds for years at this point, i always could easily set the same keys, yet on kde i can’t. if it was that easy for me to change binds i would

I know it seems odd, but meta+shift+1 = meta+! at least on an English qwerty keyboard, so despite it looking wrong in the GUI, the actual shortcut as typed still works, right?

This report seems the main one to follow, it has numerous duplicates attached to it, so perhaps it still can have some traction.

You made the same mistake - he changes his keyboard layout.

So the answer would be go to the text file, and edit that to read shift+1 instead of !.

\tMeta+!\tMeta+shift+1 might do the trick

Repeat for any other numbers… in the file - set the shortcuts first, find and edit.

❯ kate ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc

Hmmmm not that easy… So now you’d need to add another shortcut for each layout you use - or learn to use Ctrl+F1.

read the last line of the original post, i switch between italian and english layouts which breaks all of the shortcuts
