UI frozen with kwin 6.7.0-1 and drkonqi 6.7.0-3 after launching GW2

Hi,

I’m having an issue after these 2 updated packages:

[2026-06-21T15:08:05+0300] [ALPM] upgraded drkonqi (6.6.5-2 -> 6.7.0-1)
[2026-06-21T15:08:05+0300] [ALPM] upgraded kwin (6.6.5-4 -> 6.7.0-3)

When launching the game Guild Wars 2 via Steam Proton 9.0-4 (I tried also the 8 version, same), the game launcher would start coming up, then the UI freezes. I can see disk activity on my PCs LEDs, but I can’t do anything with the UI. I also cannot start a new session with Ctrl+Alt+3 and similar. I have to reboot my PC from the power button at this point.

journalctl -b -1 showed nothing relevant at the time of the freeze, just typical Wine/Proton output. Nothing that distinguishes normal game sessions from the frozen UI ones.

After reverting the 2 updates mentioned above, behavior is back to normal. The game launcher works, but causes very poor performance in all the applications I’m running, it has been this way since I think April 2026.

I’d open a bug report at https://bugs.kde.org, but I have no clue what useful information to attach. What should I include in the report?

Thank you,

Simeon

It is worth checking the user journal for errors as well.

Forgot to add, interestingly discord will continue to work in the background but other basic features like laptop lid-close detection does not work.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I ran into this issue as well, and thought I had borked my system in particular. I was running Fedora 44 on a Framework 16, and I’ve spent the last couple days installing a fresh OS (Gentoo this time) because of this issue. Perhaps I didn’t need to do all of that after all, and just needed to rollback the changes.
