[UI IDEA] More cohesive Plasma Login Manager UI

I really like the direction of the new Plasma Login Manager replacing SDDM, but visually it still feels very similar to old SDDM themes right now.

One thing I think Plasma could do really well is stronger visual continuity between the login manager/lock screen and the actual desktop session.

Right now modern Breeze UI elements look nice and polished on the desktop but the login manager visually doesn’t look new and integrated with the desktop right now.

I made a mockup based around a floating bottom bar similar to the actual Plasma desktop panel

The idea is that stuff like power controls, session selection and clock/date etc. would all live in a shell-like bottom panel (similar to the default floating panel) instead of random separate floating UI pieces. GNOME also does something similar with GDM where the top panel has the same look and layout as the actual desktop, which feels very visually slick.

Looks interesting

However how would you deal with the likely case when the useer customize the pannel layout ?

The panel doesn’t exactly need to be a 1:1 match with the actual user panel but maybe the “apply user settings/themes” options in system settings could take the side (anchor) and size (width%, height) of the actual user desktop panel and use those dimensions in the login screen “panel”.

… is that 67? Lmao

Agreed.

It’s visually unpleasant when the screen flashes black and it can easily be confused with a graphics glitch.
Furthermore, it gives a poor first impression of Plasma.

There should be a dissolve transition between the login manager and the desktop.
