“Unable to create KIO worker. Can not create a socket for launching a KIO worker for protocol ‘file’.” happens for specific folders in Dolphin since about 2 days.
It’s completely crippled my webdevelopment shop.
A fix would be greatly appreciated.
nearly a week without my main file eplorer, and i do not like to live my digital life on the commandline and in just the vi text editor.
i’m hoping for some help here.
already turned off (with the aid of grok.com) appArmor, didn’t fix the situation.
woohoo! after a completely unexpected and not self-initiated reboot, my Dolphin seems back to full health

and i do actually run with 2 working monitors..
Please edit your post, select the terminal output, then press CTRL+E on your keyboard or select Preformatted Text from the editor top bar.
The edit post button is a pencil icon under your posted reply.
It makes it easier to read terminal output this way, and it takes up less visual space in the thread.
Also, each command needs to be run separately or one at a time. That may be why the second command didn’t return the versions. Or maybe it’s an Ubuntu thing - like Snaps?

ok, several more very useful saga’s for beginner kubuntu linux sysadmins here;
after upgrading my system from 25.10 to 26.04 (much better login artwork, thanks, much better Plasma too - thanks a lot!), i still haven’t gotten it to work correctly again.
but i’m convinced that with the help of the AIs (i use grok.com, google.com’s AI mode, and claude.ai/chat), i can get it done within a few days.
i’ll update this thread once i know more / find a solution.

i’ll keep looking for the real culprit too, but i’m behind in my own work on my own software.
i got to fix a GUI web theme editor before proceeding with the bug hunt for the real culprit, but i do realize this is an edge-case.
