I have several computers, some bought AFTER usb 4 was finalized, including two recent GMKtek (G3 and K8). Sadly, none of them support 10Gbps, 20Gbps, or 40Gbps rates. Examining my systems, I can’t determine which PCIe version they support. Does my motherboard have to have PCIe version 4 (or above) to support 40Gbps?
The G3 is DDR4 so it’s PCIE 4. at max. : GMKtec Mini PC N100, Preinstalled Windows 11 Pro, G3 Intel Alder Lake N100 (3.4GHz), 8GB DDR4 RAM 256GB PCIe M.2 SSD, Desktop Computer 4K Dual HDMI/USB3.2/WiFi 6/BT5.2/2.5G RJ45 for Office, Business
The K8: GMKtec K8 Gaming Mini PC Windows 11 Pro Dual LAN 2.5Gbps AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS Desktop Computer, 32GB DDR5 Dual Channel (16GB*2) 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, USB4.0, HDMI, DP, USB-C, WiFi 6E, BT 5.2
depends on what USB spec they support.
if you m/b supports USB 3 gen2 then it supports 10Gbps
if it supports USB 3 gen2x2 then it supports 20Gbps
if it supports USB 4 then it supports 40Gbps.
Thank you to CCG and skyfishgoo, both replies were helpful.
