Use multiple instances of alpha shapes (mask) effects in a single video

This was asked before but I don’t understand what solution was applied: How do I add masks to multiple objects in a single clip?

I want to use multiple instances of the alpha shakes (mask) effect in a single video track. But whatever I do, it seems I do only ever see a single instance (the top most) of the effects.

What do I need to do in order to have all three masks show when applied to a single video track?

Only the top effect of the two alpha shapes (mask) shows in video. When I switch the two alpha shapes effects the other effect shows. I would need to have both applied.

You need to change the Operation for the second mask to Add or Subtract depending on what you want to achieve

Wow I feel stupid. Not sure what “Write on clear” does but I had expected adding it all in, would just add effects. Setting to add does the trick.
