Use `ripgrep-all` / `ripgrep` to improve search in Dolphin - KDE Blogs

The next version should be 24.12.

One more thing to mention: the search function is actually packaged in the kio-extras package, not Dolphin. So you need both dolphin and kio-extras at 24.12.

I should also mention that Fedora does not currently package ripgrep-all.

Yes, that’s why it fallbacks to ripgrep, a more commonly available package.

Of course this is reasonable.

However it’s a bummer that ripgral-all will not be available out-of-the-box in Fedora and (I guess) OpenSUSE, being currently the two distro providing the “best” KDE experience.

@nicolasfella (since I see your name in there): would the RPM packaging of ripgrep-all be an issue of interest for the Fedora KDE SIG? I have a Pagure account but I am not an active Fedora contributor, so I’d rather not open it myself.

I’m not really a Fedora packager, but I’ve forwarded this to them and they are looking into it

I feel the need to mention that some filesystems, such as sshfs used by KDEConnect, can be extremely slow whether they’re already mounted or not. Recursively $anything on a filesystem that isn’t a non-FUSE local disk is likely to be a huge slog.
