VNC to connect to desktop on Kubuntu 24.04

I’m lost. For several hours now I’m trying to get a remote desktop connection from my new laptop (Tuxedo/Kubuntu) to my old laptop (Kubuntu 24.04, firewall disabled).

I tried a number of applications and settings, rdp and vnc. Nothing works.

The laptops are on the same LAN and can see each other.

Last I tried was this:

All I get on the other laptop is an error saying “unable to connect to vnc server”, a time out or nothing at all. I tried half a dozen remote clients. Nothing works.

Why is this so super complicated? Some distros like Zorin have a GUI to share the desktop or enable remote desktop through rdp. Is there an app for Kubuntu that does the same and just works? I couldn’t find one.

KDE Plasma has built in Remote desktop, but because you are using the LTS version of Kubuntu (Plasma 5.27) the Plasma version you are using doesn’t include it.

You can wait for 26.04 LTS, switch to non-LTS or switch to a distro with a newer Plasma version.

Aaah!

Thanks for the info. I think I can wait for the 26.04 LTS. That shouldn’t be too far away, right?
