Wallpaper always switching to Plain Color after exiting System settings

How to reproduce:
Open up System settings, go into wallpaper and set it to Image, select the image for the wallpaper, close System settings.

Wallpaper is saved and in use, go back to system settings, into wallpaper, the Type selected says Plain color when there’s clearly a wallpaper set, the config in .config for plasma has that wallpaper properly listed. Also can’t set a wallpaper when right clicking on an image and set as wallpaper → desktop. The image format is webp 1920x1080.

I followed your steps and I don’t have the issue that you related. I clicked in other wallpapers and the issue don’t appears.

Linux Sucks and Tux are PNG. The others, I don’t know.

might be a config issue on my side then (i did just copy all of my .config backup into my new install), any idea what should i try to delete/reset to fix this?

The quickest way to check this is to create a new user and see if it happens too. If it doesn’t happen, the user with you asked about the issue has an error.

I remember that old Tux wallpaper back in the early days of SuSE! :joy:

yeah, that doesn’t happen on a new user, is there a way to completely purge kde’s config? reset to default

You can try with this (make backup of the files first):
