Hi everyone. I think this community is excellent, very active and collaborative. Anyway, ever since I updated to Kubuntu 26.04 LTS, I’ve run into a few snags with some apps I’ve been using for years, and I suspect Wayland is the culprit. Simple tasks like screen recording with Peek or Kooha, or turning on my gaming keyboard’s LED using ‘xset’, have become very problematic under Wayland. I’m not a distro-hopper; I need productivity. Is there a version of Kubuntu that uses X11, or how can I switch back to X11?
Try GPU recorder it’s far superior for screen and game recording than Peek and Kooha. If you want something more advanced/expert go for OBS.
There’s a couple of apps running wayland that can set your LED depending of brand.
I am pretty sure the one you are using has that because it predates the Plasma 6.8 release.
Best asked on a distribution help channel.
There is likely a package you can install which has dependencie on all the necessary X11 components
You can install the plasma-session-x11 package on Kubuntu 26.04, and select the X11 session from the login screen afterwards. But keep in mind that the X11 session is not supported by the Kubuntu devs beside just providing the related packages; that means no testing has been done and no bugs will be fixed for the X11 session.
sudo apt install plasma-session-x11
then reboot and when you get to the SDDM or plasma login screen look for the wayland/x11 toggle and toggle it to X11
should boot to X11 from then on.
but long term i would be looking for apps that work under wayland because it’s only a matter of time before you have to switch
