When opening documents from Finder in Mac OS, there’s this very strange animation that no other Mac OS application does, where a window appears full-size, then shrinks to nothing, then expands again to full size with the document open.
Is there any way to get rid of this? I know it’s very minor, but it’s a bit nails-on-chalkboard whenever I open a document, and I’m otherwise loving what I’ve seen of Kate so far.

Apart from “Kate”, nothing else you mentioned seems to be related to KDE.
On the KDE site where you can download Kate for Mac OS, this is where it directs you for help. Is this not the KDE discuss forum? Kate is a KDE project.
Yes, it is, and it includes KDE products running on non-Linux systems. (Kdenlive and KMyMoney even run on Windows, for example 
)

I thought you were speaking about opening files in general on Mac OS, and didn’t link your mention of Kate with the opening of files.

Hi, that looks like a bug, would need to debug, perhaps the way we try to raise the window is bad.
I altered something for Windows activation, perhaps one on the next nightly builds behaves better: try to not modify the window state on activate (6eced204) · Commits · Utilities / Kate · GitLab
I tried the 2026-09-08 build (the About panel shows version 26.11.70), and the behaviour remains the same.
Ok, I would have thought that version should have my patch, too bad, then I have no obvious idea.
