I use KDE at work and I have 10 plus customers each with their own VPN connection that I can properly use through the network manager, which by the way is very cool 
I use the Wi-Fi tray icon and the applet a lot for connecting to my networks so I don’t go to the settings manager to manage my networks there. But now when I want to deal with a Wi-Fi connection I barely can find my Wi-Fi anymore because they are all below the Wi-Fi VPN connections, so I need to scroll down 10 plus entries to get to the Wi-Fi that are listed below.
I believe the majority of users won’t have any Wi-Fi at all. Would it make sense to have tabs to split Wi-Fi and VPNs apart, but the tabs are only shown if you have at least one VPN? Or in the KDE spirit, probably make it configurable? 
What do you guys think? Am I too sensitive to scrolling?
From my house I can see 20+ wifi networks from the neighbour’s houses.
There are many wifi networks for most people I suspect.
Having the vpn list and wifi list being separate might be a better UX?

The KDE Plasma interfaces usually display an alphabetically sorted list –
- If, you were to change the name (SSID) of your WiFi/WLAN to something which the Plasma Network sorts to the top of the list, would that be sufficient to work around your problem?
Unfortunately, I don’t currently have a Linux Laptop – Ethernet cable connection only …
But, I checked my MacBook Air and notice that, Apple sorts the unused SSID names here in my neighbourhood alpabetically.
perhaps another option that is more in keeping with the current UI design is to add a Recent section just below Connected.
that way anything you regularly use from the Available section will be more handy.
might be easier than adding tabs.
Yeah, the list is like having apples and oranges in one list together, which would normally drive me to separate them, but I see some kind of similarity. You can connect to it, in both cases.
Actually, I realized that it’s already sorted by the most recent. So the trick with alphabetically ordering won’t work, but I like the most recent almost better.
What would actually help me the most, so that I don’t even have to use the applet, is that I could connect to a VPN via KRunner.
