Where is the KDE 5 services in KDE 6?

KDE 5 used to have a section under the settings menu to be able to activate services. It was super handy. Now it seems missing. So easy to start new services without having to do it manually.

Those services are technical details, hence users are by default not exposed to them.

They are turned on when needed and affected by other settings present in systemsettings.

Still the kcm (kde config module) still exists: kcmshell6 kcm_kded for debugging purposes.

Thanks for the reply and thanks for the note. Any chance you can change that back to the System Settings?

When I read it though, it reminds me why it is so hard to convince Windows users to a Linux Desktop. These things are exposed to a Windows user and Windows will not stop you from breaking your system with them. Linux users are seen as Geeky people using the command line to do everything. This sends it back to that with command line again.

Maybe a good compromise is to put it back into the settings menu and put it behind a root password.

Anyway, Linux really needs to get away from this image it has made for itself. I hope you guys give it some new thought.

Thanks for your time.

I already gave you the reason why. Until this is not relevant (which it will never be) no, very unlikely.

That must change if we want to grow Linux market share which is part of the KDE community overreaching goals.
Linux users shouldn’t have to manage their daemons one-by-one by hand.

Those are conscious deliberated choices. People also say “systemsettings is bloated”, with this kcm not part of it anymore, a little less so.

You have a better state: systemsettings that don’t expose plumbing to regular users while still having a gui just less accessible.
Windows just does that.

We decided against an advanced mode in systemsettings long ago. That’s simply flawed design.

One correction to your statement above. In Windows, all you do is right click and start task manager, and then click the services tab. It is 100% not hidden from the user and very easy to get to.

But anyway, this is all pointless as it is clear you have made up your minds. I think an incorrect choice, but it is clear the choice is made to make things harder for the user.

Thanks for at least hearing me out though. You can close the thread.

I was looking for a way to add Bulk Rename to the right-click Open With -menu in Dolphin when more than one file is selected. This was relatively easy by using:
KDE System Settings File Associations and adding Bulk Rename under:
Application Octet Stream. See also: Creating Dolphin service menus | Developer and specifically the tip in the green area.

Hi - it looks like you might have accidentally posted this on the end of an older thread about a different topic? Please feel free to repost this in its own topic, perhaps under Tips and Tricks? (Or another one if you meant to reply to a different post, of course)
