Why does overview gets disabled for 1-3s after desktop switch?

After i switch desktop either using pager or keyboard shortcut the overview gets disabled for 1-3 seconds so i can’t use hot corner and keyboard shortcut immediately.

But there’s not deactivation if desktop is switched using overview itself or touchpad.

I know about hot corner reactivation delay and i’ve set it to 100ms.

You’re quite right, something I never noticed before because I can’t say I ever needed to activate the overview within a second of switching desktops.

I’m curious if it’s a safety margin (to let the animation finish) or what. I found it easier to test with my mouse in the corner, mousewheel to slide desktop and then bang into the corner - then I notice it doesn’t work if the mouse hits too quickly - it works faster if you pause a half second beforehand.

For Meta_W overview, if I wait for the desktop switch animation to disappear, then it works.

hi, welcome.

if you could provide the output of kinfo

i see no such delay on my plasma 5 install.

yeh i thought the same actually but if they can manage to maintain the animations when the same is done using the hot corner (touch hot corner to get overview and then switching the desktop and then immediately touch hot corner again) though it skips animations if too fast XD
then they can manage when desktop is switched other ways too. It would really polish the workflow (i feel so restricted when i have to wait a sec :sob:)

since coming from gnome where workflow is the main highlight i guess kde is just a few steps away from being as fluid as gnome in workflow, i see a lot of improvements from the time i used it two years ago. i want to stick to kde now but workflow is disrupting me a lot :frowning:

i am on plasma 6 sorry i didnt mention that

Operating System: Fedora Linux 44
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.28.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1
Kernel Version: 7.1.5-201.fc44.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 24 × 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-13700HX
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.3 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor 1: Intel® UHD Graphics
Graphics Processor 2: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU

sounds like a regression then

if it’s easy to duplicate then it should be easy to fix.

umm yeh, let me report

I have the same problem! I’ve also found that the delay doesn’t happen if I turn off the slide animation, or switch to the fade animation, when switching virtual desktops.

please post the report here so others can easily comment if they are seeing the same thing.

Thanks mate, didn’t know this. i’ll stick to “fade” till this is fixed. :))

Here you go, I’ve submitted the bug report. Hope they fix it soon.
