Why is my external monitor blurry if it's not the only screen?

I have a 1920x1080 monitor, if I connect it to a PC, everything looks nice and sharp.

But if I connect it to a laptop (also 1920x1080 internal screen), everything looks slightly blurry, like if every pixel shifted a bit. It happened with multiple laptops.

I also have the left of the external monitor cut off since updating to 6.5, it was fine before. Setting overscan to 40% brings back the panel, but then everything so blurry, it’s uncomfortable to use.

What can I try to configure differently?

X11 or Wayland? My first thought is two monitors with different refresh rates, and in X11 this blurriness is not unusual if they do differ.

I’m on Wayland, both are 60Hz (60.0 and 60.02 Hz). Changing refresh rate doesn’t seem to affect the blurryness

Sounds like you’re connecting the display through HDMI, and the display is stupid and enables overscan there.

If so, unless it can be turned off on the display, there’s no way to fully fix it I’m afraid.

It’s weird because it only happens on 6.5.x and this one laptop

So it turns out that I just didn’t notice the setting, and you actually can turn off overscan, which fixes it
