Had some issues with battery life combined with odd sound issues (microphone not working, applet showing the mic flicking between headset and internal mic, hotkeys adjust sound but it reverts). Looking at running processes with system monitor I can see wireplumber and associated pipewire sound stuff using a load of processor overhead like something is not completing. Disabling mic (changing from duplex to stereo output only) is a temporary fix but then I cannot use a microphone.
If anyone has any ideas they’d be really welcome. Other than disabling duplex entirely i haven’t tried anything else.
I have an acer 515-45 ryzen 5500 based laptop.
I have the same laptop, this problem occurs after suspend. Restart wireplumber doesn’t fix the problem. Looking at pavucontrol the internal mic and headset microphone are switching in a infinity loop.
Did the sound issues start just recently, or have they occurred since you got the device? If they happened recently, was any hardware or software changed before you noticed them? (Basically, what - if anything - happened right before the issue showed up)
Do the sound issues occur when you boot from a live USB drive? (Trying to rule out configuration of your system)
This sounds like a hardware problem, where perhaps the physical headset connection isn’t solid (either to the external plug, or internally to the rest of the system) and thus it keeps going back and forth reporting its status and throwing things off in software - but trying in a totally different OS, live-booted from a USB, should rule out a local configuration problem.
I’ve tried booting windows on the same device and it works fine. It worked on Kde Neon standard but not on testing. Hadn’t thought to check a live usb. I’ll do that. Although I don’t think i’ve touched the audio configuration at all.
Thanks
I’m using Manjaro with Sway, so maybe it is not related with KDE.
