In this build KDE silently crashes and reloads one or more times immediately after login. If it does this more than three times, it stops reloading and I get a black screen with the Discover window.
Unfortunately this isn’t descriptive enough to troubleshoot. You’ll need to be more specific.
Did you try to manually re-enable sddm and disable plasmalogin?
Maybe Troubleshooting - KDE Community Wiki helps?
I don’t think it’s related to plasmalogin. After the login process, I get the KDE desktop, then black screen, then the desktop again. This can occur two or three times in a quick succession. If there are any other windows at this moment (Discover, System Settings), they stay on screen and don’t crash.
There are known issues related to plasmalogin right now:
- Black screen instead of plasma-login-manager greeter (#476) · Issues · KDE Linux / KDE Linux · GitLab
- etc-factory runs too late for Systemd to pick up any changes it makes (#3) · Issues · KDE Linux / etc-factory · GitLab
At this point I think it would be best to roll back to an older image and re-enable SDDM, and we’ll fix those issues, and then you can re-test.
The login manager runs fine (except for gooish colors), but then I can randomly get this:
The desktop tries to load several times times and silently crashes. If it does this once or twice, it finally loads and the system continues to run normally. However, if it crashes THREE times, I get this screen with no way to access the desktop without rebooting.
Watch this:

The desktop crashes twice and then loads fine.
But if it does this for the THIRD time, I get a black screen with the Discover window. Pay attention, this occurs way LATER than the login process.
Probably fixed in the latest build (202601160254).
